Alison worked with the Quakers before World War II to help Jewish refugees fleeing Nazism. Her experience was one of the elements that led to the creation of the Council of Christians and Jews in 1942, she was a lifelong member from its inception. During the war she supported the Jewish group who prepared to help victims afterwards, and went with the liberation team to Belsen in 1946. As a social worker she helped disturbed children and in later life lived in Pocklington House, a home for the blind in Northwood. Veronica Sass saw a drawing of a Magen David in Alison’s room and invited her to NPLS. Alison came to NPLS every Yom Kippur and designed her own memorial service to be held at NPLS with Rabbi Andrew Goldstein. Alison attended every session of the Northwood Holocaust Memorial Day Event for its first 10 years and was a dear friend of many NPLS members.
Alison’s Magen David was a gift from a child at Belsen.
